Apart from the incongruity theory of humour, we equally looked at the superiority theory which states that laughter is at someone directed down at deformities from a perceived superior position and the relief theory which is a psychological theory of humour most famously associated with Sigmund Freud. This means that the incongruity theory of humour serves as the theoretical prop for the study. This paper which undertakes a semantico-pragmatic analysis of Nigerian jokes aims at finding out how far the Nigerian entertainment industry has been able to meet up the demands of the different theories of humour especially the incongruity theory which has it that humour is the combination of two or more ideas which are supposed to be utterly disparate.
